The New Calvinism / The Canons of Dordt

In recent years there has been a growing interest in Reformed Theology, particularly among younger people. Kent Philpott looks at the biblical nature of Reformed Theology beginning with the Old Testament, then in turn the New Testament. Augustine, who in the late third and early fourth centuries revived interest in the doctrines of election, was rediscovered by leaders of the 16th century reformation particularly by John Calvin whose name became identified with predestination and election. Now this same emphasis on the sovereignty of God is receiving renewed attention. This is the subject of the first of the four half hour DVD programs. Then the 17th century Synod at the Dutch city of Dordt is examined in the following three half hour programs. An international delegation of church leaders complied an answer to the followers of Jacob Arminius who had created a remonstrance or protest against the dominate Reformed theology. The Canons of Dordt, which emerged from the synod, became the basis for the famous TULIP or the five points of Calvinism. In addition are two essays written by Philpott that are an adjunct to the DVDs. This is prepared for those who are interested in understanding the origins and development of Reformed Theology, and offers a clear and understandable presentation of the doctrines of grace.
